2014 Donate Life Transplant Games of America: FLDRN Sponsors Team Finger Lakes
The Games will take place in Houston, Texas, and Team Finger Lakes is planning to send its biggest-ever team!
Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network (FLDRN) will once again sponsor Team Finger Lakes, representing New York State’s Finger Lakes, Central and North Country regions.
Team Finger Lakes is already pulling together its biggest team to attend these exciting multiple-day events.
What Is the Transplant Games?
The Donate Life Transplant Games of America is a week-long celebration of donation and transplantation that shows the world how organ, tissue, eye and bone marrow transplant recipients live life to the fullest after a transplant.
Teams from across America participate in a various sporting events. Donor families and living donors also attend.
“Houston won out for a variety of reasons”
In a media release announcing the selection of Houston, Bill Ryan, President and CEO of the Transplant Games of America stated, “Houston won out over a number of exceptional communities for a variety of reasons. The [Harris County - Houston] Sports Authority bid clearly demonstrated an overwhelming commitment to the rich history of the Transplant Games and the cause of organ donation and transplantation.”
With such an alarming shortage of donors, the Games encourages Americans to sign up as organ donors. Here, in New York, individuals age 18 and over can enroll in the New York State Donate Life Registry.
